Funding will expand device distribution, digital access, and workforce training
Boston, Massachusetts – April 6th, 2026 – MACIR today announced it has received a $50,000 grant from the Global Technology Industry Association (GTIA) to support EELEVATE Digital Opportunity. The funding will help expand MACIR’s Digital Access Center, including digital navigation services, device distribution, digital literacy support, and workforce development programs.
Founded to empower communities through technology, MACIR works to bridge the digital divide and help individuals build digital skills, access technology, and prepare for IT careers. MACIR serves low- to moderate-income residents, BIPOC communities, immigrants and refugees, English language learners, women, and people without college degrees through digital access, literacy, device distribution, and job training programs.
The funding from GTIA will strengthen those efforts by supporting MACIR’s Digital Access Center in East Boston, where staff, interns, students, and Digital Navigators provide remote and on-site help desk services, refurbish and distribute laptops and hotspots, and support community members in accessing education, workforce, and online services.
“We are honored to receive this grant from the Global Technology Industry Association,” said Rachid Moukhabir, Executive Director of MACIR. “This support will help us expand digital opportunity for underserved communities by increasing access to devices, digital literacy, digital navigation, and workforce pathways. Technology can be a powerful tool for equity and economic mobility, and this investment helps us bring that mission to life.”

MACIR is one of 45 nonprofit organizations worldwide to have received a GTIA grant as part of the association’s $1.91 million in total charitable giving in 2025. GTIA’s charitable investment reinforces the association’s commitment to advancing access, equity, education, workforce development, and technology-driven innovation. GTIA has recently announced it is expanding its charitable giving to $5 million in 2026.
Through a significantly expanded philanthropic portfolio, GTIA directed funding and resources to organizations such as MACIR that are creating measurable social impact across education, workforce readiness, and community development.
This grant is especially important as MACIR works to sustain and expand programs that address persistent digital inequities across Massachusetts. MACIR’s work includes supervising and supporting more than 30 Digital Navigators, distributing over 1,500 refurbished laptops and 300 hotspots, delivering more than 3,000 free digital equity services, and advancing the ELEVATE project with the Lawrence Public Library to help transform community rooms into vibrant digital equity hubs.
