Our Impact

MACIR students have been offered internship opportunities that empower them to make meaningful contributions to the community in various IT-related areas such as providing IT services, computer refurbishment, internet connectivity, and end-user training. These internships serve as invaluable experiences, enriching their resumes and positioning them for entry-level roles in the thriving and financially rewarding IT sectors. Ultimately, these opportunities pave the path toward attaining desirable economic stability.

Device Distribution

We offer our students a unique internship opportunity involving the refurbishment of numerous outdated laptops donated by our partners. These refurbished devices are then provided to low-income families, nonprofit organizations, and other community helpers who are in need. As a benefit of participating in our Tech Support Job program training, our students receive a complimentary laptop along with other tech equipment such as docking stations, monitors, routers, and printers.

Digital Skills

Our IT students are actively involved in making a positive impact on the community through their participation in Digital Skills workshops. In these workshops, they provide comprehensive training to end users, covering essential computer usage and a range of software applications. As dedicated volunteers, our students commit their time to teaching the Tech Goes Home Digital Literacy classes. Through this program, individuals not only gain valuable technological knowledge but also receive free laptops generously donated by TGH, further empowering them in the digital world.

Internet Access

MACIR, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Area Council (MAPC) and the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI), has organized numerous outreach events to promote ACP adoption. Our dedicated staff and volunteers have been actively enrolling eligible local residents in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), ensuring that they can take advantage of free internet connection or discounted services and devices. The American Connectivity Program (ACP) is a government program designed to help provide internet access and relieve internet costs for low-income people and/or senior citizens. MACIR has also actively participated in extensive discussions with service providers and other stakeholders at both state and national levels to enhance the efficiency of the ACP signup process.

IT Service Provider

MACIR students generously offer complimentary professional IT services including hardware and software support to local schools and non-profit organizations. Their valuable contributions include computer deployment for students at the start of the academic year. By assisting Revere Public Schools, MACIR’s IT students have successfully updated and aligned over 4,000 laptops with the district’s curriculum software and other essential programs, ensuring compatibility and seamless integration for educational purposes.

Economic Equity

Our ultimate goal at MACIR Career Center is to achieve economic equity for all individuals. As part of our comprehensive training program, students have the opportunity to complete the prestigious Google IT Support Professional Certification. This certification serves as a strong foundation for securing entry-level tech support jobs in the Greater Boston area, with salaries ranging from 50K to 70K.

We go above and beyond by assisting our alumni in their IT career growth. We provide full scholarships to support them in pursuing advanced Google certificates in areas such as Project Management, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, UX Design, Digital Marketing & E-commerce. These additional certifications open doors to higher-level positions and expanded opportunities within the IT industry.

For students who aspire to earn a college degree, we have established a valuable partnership with the University of the People. Through this partnership, we facilitate access to tuition-free college courses, allowing our students to pursue higher education without the burden of student loans. This unique opportunity empowers our alumni to start their careers on a strong financial footing and even begin investing for their future.

At MACIR, we understand the importance of financial literacy. That’s why we have teamed up with our partner, The Neighborhood Developers (TND), to offer financial literacy workshops to all our members. These workshops provide essential knowledge and skills to help our alumni make informed financial decisions and build a solid foundation for their economic well-being.

We take pride in supporting our alumni in their journey toward homeownership. Some of our alumni have been able to take advantage of up to $50,000 MassHousing down payment assistance, which expedites their path to becoming homeowners. This valuable opportunity allows our alumni to establish roots, build wealth, and create a stable foundation for themselves and their families.

At MACIR Career Center, we are dedicated to empowering individuals with the tools and resources they need to achieve economic equity. By offering comprehensive training, career advancement opportunities, financial literacy education, and access to valuable partnerships, we strive to make a lasting impact on the lives of our members and the community as a whole.
